PRESIDENT SAMIA COMMENDS AND DIRECTS PPRA; NeST SAVES OVER TZS 13.5 BILLION

The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has commended the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) for effectively managing the NeST system, which enhances transparency and accountability in public procurement processes.

Speaking after receiving the Authority’s Annual Public Procurement Performance Evaluation and Value for Money Report for the Financial Year 2024/2025 on March 30, 2026, at the State House in Dar es Salaam, President Samia urged leaders of all public institutions to strictly adhere to public procurement procedures to safeguard public funds and ensure they are used for their intended purposes.

She further directed PPRA to publicly identify underperforming leaders and institutions in order to strengthen accountability, efficiency, and integrity across public institutions.

“Additionally, I direct the Director General of PPRA to adopt what is known as ‘Name and Shame.’ In your next report, clearly indicate those who perform poorly and those who perform well. This will motivate underperformers to improve,” said President Samia.

In another directive, the President instructed the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and the President’s Office – Public Service Management, to continue overseeing the integration of other government systems with NeST.

This directive followed a report by PPRA Director General, Mr. Dennis Simba, indicating that NeST has already been integrated with 21 government systems, with ongoing efforts to integrate more.

Earlier, while presenting the report, Mr. Simba noted that the use of NeST has resulted in savings of over TZS 13.5 billion due to reduced use of paper and toner. He added that PPRA is conducting further assessments to quantify savings accrued by bidders through reduced travel, printing, and submission costs.

Furthermore, the Authority saved over TZS 634.1 million through a special investigation conducted across 16 procuring entities.
