Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, has expressed reservations about the structural integrity of the building housing the Horohoro One Stop Border Post in Tanga Region, TPJ has learnt.

According to a statement released by his office on 2 March, Mr. Majaliwa was amazed that the building, with so many obvious structural defects could be deemed fit for occupancy and went on to summon officials of Tanzania Revenue Authority(TRA) and the contractor involved in its construction at a cost of TZS 7.6 billion, to appear at his office in Dodoma on 11 March.

. “The walls are in poor shape, how on earth could the buildings of the Tanzania Revenue Authority be of such poor standards and why did you allow the buildings to be used in the first place?” asked Mr. Majaliwa. “This post [being at the Tanzania/Kenya border] is the face of our nation, it is impossible for a visitor to enjoy services in such a building,” the statement quoted the PM as saying. .

The PM warned that the Government would take stern action against all culprits and said the public funds spent would have to be properly accounted for.

The Mkinga District Commissioner, Mr. Yona Maki, had told Mr. Majaliwa that the building was commissioned in August 2015 and that it houses 16 Government institutions.
