The Government spent TZS 15.32 trillion on procurement and other expenses in the first six months of this financial year, to meet its various obligations including procurement of contractors, service providers and suppliers, TPJ has learnt.

Briefing Parliament in Dodoma recently, Prime Minister KassimMajaliwasaid that the first half of the Financial Year 2019/20 saw the Government spend the amounton key projects including the 300-kilometre standard gauge railway from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma, which he said as of December 2019 had reached 70 percent, the Julius Nyerere hydro power project in Rufiji, where so far the completed works include construction of a temporary bridge and a 147.6-metre long underground tunnel and the rural electrification project whereby a total of 8,236 villages out of 12,268 villages, which is equivalent to 67.1 percent of all villages on Mainland Tanzania, had been connected.

He said construction of Ubungo inter-change had until December 2019 reached 62 percent while construction of an eight-lane road section from Kimara to Kibaha was 63 percent done while the completed projects include construction of Sibiti Bridge in Singida, Momba (at the border between Songwe and Rukwa), MlalakuwaBridge in Dar es Salaam) and LukulediBridge in Lindi.

The PM also reaffirmed Government’s commitment to improve the national airline, noting that it had made advance payments for procurement of three aircraft, which will bring the total to 11 from eight which it possessed as of December 2019.
