The Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) has detained an accountant and assistant engineer in Lindi region for questioning over an alleged misappropriation of TZS 221, 000,000 that was earmarked for construction of a children’s ward at Lindi Regional Hospital, TPJ has learnt.

The Acting Director General of PCCB Brigadier General John Mbungo said during a press conference recently that the officials were linked to the embezzlement allegations, which surfaced during the recent visit of President John Magufuli in the region.

The PCCB boss named the officials as Mr. Clemenc Olomi, the Lindi Regional Hospital’s accountant and Mr. Zebedayo Selemani, the assistant engineer of Lindi District Council.

He added that among the offences the duo faced was forging payment documents for non-existent works.

PCCB was tasked by President Magufuli to investigate and charge all officials involved in corruption and misappropriation of funds earmarked for implementation of various projects in the country.

This followed a recent report by the Uhuru Torch leader indicating that some 107 projects worth TZS 90.2bn/ in 82 municipal and district councils across the country prompted corruption red flag or were shoddily implemented.
