The Government has saved funds amounting to TZS 398billion after contracting the Tanzania Building Agency (TBA) to implement projects in various parts of the country during the financial year 2017/18, TPJ has learnt.

TBA’s Chief Executive Officer, Arch. Elius Mwakalinga, told visitors during the inauguration of the 42nd Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) that among projects in which savings were made included construction of the University of Dar es Salaam hostel at a cost of TZS 10billion instead of the allocated TZS 100billion, Ihungo Secondary School at a cost of TZS 12 billion instead of TZS 108billion and Geita Hospital at a cost of TZS 17billion instead of TZS 75 billion.

Other projects were the construction of Simiyu Hospital at a cost of TZS 12billion instead of TZS 47billion, construction of Chato Hospital at TZS 13billion instead of TZS 60billion, Magomeni project at a cost of TZS 20billion instead of TZS 86, Ukonga project at a cost of TZS 10billion instead of TZS 32billion.

Arch. Mwakalinga also said that currently TBA has 180 projects which cost TZS 350billion, whereby 92 projects are for designing and construction which costs TZS 192billion and 54 projects for designing at a cost of TZS 62billion. 

"TBA has competent human resources, modern equipment and machines [to execute all works to the highest standards,]" Arch. Mwakalinga said.
