The Government has said all rural water projects in the country will be subjected to audit to ascertain whether they met the value for money objectives, Parliament was told recently.

Adjourning the budget session, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa cautioned government officials to exercise discipline and accountability when handling public funds and other national resources set aside for projects otherwise appropriate action would be taken against them.

He singled water projects saying the Government was going to form a special committee to audit all rural water projects to establish if they met the value for money objectives.

“I appeal to you and the public in general to accord the committee maximum cooperation to enable it complete its mission within scheduled time,” he said.

The Prime Minister also said the Government was going to enhance monitoring and evaluation of all development projects for the same reason.
