The National Economic Empowerment Council (NEEC) has said it is making efforts towards maximising possibilities for local firms and entrepreneurs to benefit from opportunities presented by the soon-to-start implementation of the oil pipeline project between Hoima in Uganda and Tanga.

The NEEC Executive Secretary Ms Beng’i Issa said in Dar es Salaam recently that the Council, in collaboration with the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation and other key stakeholders were determined to ensure local firms benefit from bids related to implementation of the project.

“The project will open up a host of economic opportunities and therefore we must be ready to exploit them,” she said.

Ms Issa added that NEEC would be organising a national forum to promote opportunities in the construction of the pipeline and for key stakeholders to exchange valuable information on tender opportunities and procurement procedures.

She said the forum, slated for 23 February 2018, will among others, involve representatives of project investors, the Ministry of Energy, Ewura, TBS and Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority.
