KairukiThe Government has called upon institutions that oversee procurement to introduce anti corruption desks to fight the vice in the construction sector, TPJ has learnt

The call was made by the Minister of State in the President’s Office, Public Service Management and Good Governance, Ms. Angela Kairuki, during a meeting with the National Construction Council in Dar es Salaam recently.
The minister observed that corruption remains rife in construction, hence warned public servants against endorsing bogus contracts or which they did not have knowledge on or were unsure of.
The Deputy Director General of the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB), Brig. Gen. John Mbungo, said concerted efforts were needed to fight corruption in the construction sector, where the Government spent a lot of money.
According to him, there is great need for transparency and accountability in the sector as statistics indicate that construction is the most corrupt sector in the world – a view which was endorsed by the Chairman of Construction Sector Transparency Initiative (CoST), Eng. Kazungu Magili.
