IyombeThe Permanent Secretary in President's Office - Regional Administration and Local Government, Eng. Mussa Iyombe, has directed Tanzania Rural and Urban Road Agency (Tarura) to be watchful against malpractices in tendering and mismanagement of road works contracts.
Speaking with Tarura executives recently in Dar es Salaam, Eng. Iyombe said the newly established authority responsible for the country’s rural and urban roads networks must uphold and meet value for money objectives in all road projects, by ensuring that only capable and credible contractors get contracts through competitive tendering.
“You are required to make sure that you help the government to address the problem of shoddy works and fight against corrupt practices which are rampant in tendering for road projects,” said the Eng. Iyombe, adding that the Government would not tolerate existence of executives who would fail to guard against the vices.
The Government launched Tarura in June this year aiming at boosting agricultural productivity and therefore economic growth in rural areas by facilitating transportation.
The agency is responsible for district, urban and feeder roads that were under the regional administration and local government authorities.
