A new team of engineers has been picked to oversee ongoing construction of Julius Nyerere International Airport terminal three in line with President John Magufuli’s directive.
Works, Transport and Communication Minister Prof. Makame Mbarawa announced the formation of the team to be led by Eng. Julius Ndyamukama who is Dar es Salaam Regional Manager, Tanzania National Roads Agency.  Others are Godson Ngomuo, Humphrey Kanyenge, Abednego Lyanga, Mbila Mdemu and Rehema Myeya.
Prof. Mbarawa further said work on the project being undertaken by BAM International had resumed as per President Magufuli’s directive, adding that the new team started its assignment immediately upon appointment.
During an impromptu visit to the project site a day before Prof. Mbarawa’s announcement, President Magufuli had directed him to form a new team of engineers to oversee the project and to ensure the Government gets best value for money.
According to a statement issued by the directorate of presidential communications unit, Dr. Magufuli also ordered a review of the project’s cost saying 560 billion/- quoted seemed too much for the works being undertaken.
President Magufuli also suspended Acting Secretary of Planning Commission in the Ministry of Finance and Planning Frolence Mwanri reportedly for endorsing implementation of the second phase of the project before completion of the first one.
Meanwhile, the Government has paid BAM International 22 billion/- to fulfill President Magufuli’s promise to settle its debt after verification of the claim, according to Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Planning, Mr. Dotto James, who was addressing a press conference in Dar es Salaam recently.
